Timeline of the Debt Removal Process

Curious what the entire debt removal process is like?

We’re also going to cover that today.

But first, a common question people have is…

What if the account is CLOSED but no debt collectors have contacted me yet – what next?

If 90+ days has passed and also the original creditor has closed the credit account, it will immediately be sold to debt collectors.

Be aware, it takes debt collectors time to initiate a collection process as they purchase “bulk debt bundles” and have a lot to sift through before starting anything on their end.

If a debt collector has not reached out yet you can still begin the process.

Debt Removal Process:

Step 1A) Get a copy of all your credit reports from each bureau

Step 1B) Freeze credit bureau acts > wait 2 weeks

*It’s best to wait until the debts been sold to mail the 1st letter

Step 2) Mail 1st letter > wait 10 days

Step 3) Mail 2nd letter + bureau letter > wait 20 days

Step 4) Mail 2nd credit report > wait 1 day

Step 5) Mail 3rd letter > wait 30 days

*You’ll typically hear back after the 3rd letter

Step 6) Lawsuit against the creditor/collector (if necessary)
